Summer Hockey Schedule

Welcome to City Ice Pavilion, New York City’s newest NHL-Sized Hockey Rink. Located in Long Island City, two blocks from the 7 Train, and minutes over the 59th Street Bridge, City Ice Pavilion is also New York City’s most convenient Hockey Rink! If you don’t have a car to take advantage of our free, covered parking, take advantage of our transportation service, with central pick-ups (in Manhattan), and home drop-off!

All 2009/’10 Youth Hockey Programs season will officially begin the week of September 28th, with pre-season clinics being held the week of September 21st. City Ice will continue to offer our popular After School Hockey League for both Squirts and Pee Wees. We are also excited to announce our new partnerships with the New York Rangers and Manhattan Mighty Mites. These new relationships will vastly improve the skill development of our younger players.

Learn To Skate & Learn To Play Hockey

 -

Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:00 PM – 5:00PM Cost – $30 per class – $250 per 10 week session Ages – 3- 10 years Learn what it takes to be a Blueshirt. The Future Rangers program provides a solid foundation in all the fundamental skating and hockey skills that a Ranger needs. All you need to start is your True Blue spirit. No matter what your skill level, the experienced coaches in our Hockey Development Team have designed a range of programs to help you develop all the techniques it takes to skate with Ranger pride.

Start training now and who knows? Someday it just might be you skating on The Garden ice in a Rangers jersey! The established program objectives are as follows:

Learn to Skate

• To learn the basic skills required to skate the game of hockey

• To create and refine basic motor patterns

• Focuses on basic skating skills; starting, stopping, turning and balance

- 

Learn to Play Hockey

• To learn the basic skills required to skate and play the game of hockey

• To develop an understanding of basic teamwork through participation in a variety of activities and adapted game situations

• To have fun while playing hockey and engaging in physical activity

• To be introduced to the concepts of cooperation, fair play, and sportsmanship

• Focuses on basic hockey skills; skating, puck-handling, passing and shooting.

Manhattan Mighty Mites

 -

Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:00 PM – 6:20 PM Cost – $45 per class – $750 per 20 week session Ages: 6 – 10 years Manhattan Mighty Mites New York City’s first, and most popular, Cross Ice hockey program. All participants are divided into three groups based on skill/experience – beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Each group will be limited to 18 players (two “teams”, consisting of three lines of three players). At any given time, there will be at least one coach per six skaters in each section. Manhattan Mighty-Mites will meet from 5:00 PM – 6:20 PM every Monday and Wednesday, at City Ice Pavilion.

The emphasis of this clinic will be the development of game skills. Every group will have pucks on their sticks as much as possible. Obviously, the focus of each group will be slightly different, but EVERYONE who participates in Manhattan Mighty-Mites will leave with better skills, quicker reaction speed, and a better understanding of the game of hockey.

After School Hockey League

- 

Tuesday Practice – Sunday Games Cost – $1300 per player Ages: 9 – 12 years old

Don’t like the idea of getting up before the sun to bring your child to Hockey practice? At City Ice Pavilion, you don’t have to! With after school practices, run by our expert coaching staff, and games on Sunday afternoons, the whole family will be able to enjoy your child’s hockey experience.

League Schedule and Game Format*

- 

The After School Hockey League will begin with evaluations on the week of September 21st, and end the week of March 14th with Playoffs and League Championships. There will be no practice or games on major holidays.

All teams will have split-ice practices on Tuesday evenings. In addition to the weekly team practices, our Director of Hockey, Patrick Jackson, will be running option skills and power skating clinics for each Division, throughout the season. All games will be held on Sunday afternoon between 2:30 PM and 7:00 PM. All games will three periods long, with changes on the fly. Game length will be one 12 minute period, and two 15 minute periods.** * league schedule is subject to change, due to enrollment **if for any reason, a game does not finish in the allotted time period, the Director of Hockey may choose to run the game clock.

Squirts (1999 & 2000) Practice – Tuesday, 5:00 PM – 6:20 PM

- 

The main focus of the Squirt program will be individual skill and team skill development, with a strong emphasis on skating technique. Squirts play with no body checking and “changing on the fly.”

Pee Wees (1997 & 1998) Practice – Tuesday, 6:30 PM – 7:50 PM

- 

The Pee Wee program will focus on individual technical and tactical skills, while introducing team systems. There will be several body-checking clinics held throughout the year, to insure all players thoroughly understand how to give, and receive a safe and effective body-check. There will also be a weekly power skating clinic, for all Pee Wees, every Thursday evening from 7:30 – 8:30 PM. These clinics are optional, but all players are strongly encouraged to attend.
