Class Descriptions

Learn to Play Hockey, Beginner
In this introductory class, skaters will learn basic skating skills such as two-foot glides, forward swizzles and backward wiggles, and some preliminary stick and puck handling, all of which will prepare them for Learn to Play Hockey Intermediate.

Required Equipment:
Hockey helmet with cage, ice hockey gloves

Recommended:
Ice hockey skates (or use our rental skates; cost included in class fee)

Learn to Play Hockey, Intermediate
This class introduces skaters to advanced hockey drills along with stick and puck handling techniques, as well as ongoing work on skating skills. Graduates will progress to Learn to Play Hockey, Advanced.

Required Equipment:
Hockey helmet with cage, ice hockey skates, elbow pads, shoulder pads, hockey pants, shin pads, hockey gloves, hockey stick.

In Addition, We Recommend:
Jersey, hockey socks, jock shorts, mouth guard, neck guard

Learn to Play Hockey, Advanced
This class continues to work with players on stick and puck handling, skating skills with some scrimmages just for fun! Upon graduation, players can join the NYC Skyliners House League, hosted by City Ice Pavilion.

USA Hockey
Current membership in USA Hockey is mandatory for all skaters in the Learn to Play Hockey program. Go to membership.usahockey.com to register or renew.
